Cat and dog daily feeding calculator
Use weight, age, neutering status and activity level to work out how many calories (kcal) and how many grams of dry food your pet needs each day, plus the amount per meal and a water intake reference. The calculation uses the standard RER (resting energy requirement) and MER factor formulas, and runs entirely on your own device — nothing is uploaded.

How to use this result
- Feed to the result for 2 weeks, then weigh your pet: if the weight has not changed, keep it; if it has gone up or down, adjust by about 10% at a time.
- Wet or raw food needs its own water and calorie calculation — you cannot simply copy the dry food grams.
- Treats usually make up no more than a tenth of daily calories; if you count treats, take that amount off the main meal.
- For pets that are ill, pregnant or nursing, recovering from surgery, or not developing normally, ask your vet before changing the portion.
Formula (fully disclosed)
- RER (resting energy requirement) = 70 × weight (kg)0.75 (kcal / day).
- Daily calories = RER × MER factor; the factor depends on age, neutering and activity level (about 1.2 for a neutered adult cat, 1.6 for a neutered adult dog, 2.0-3.0 for young animals, 1.1-1.4 for senior cats and dogs).
- Grams of dry food per day = daily kcal ÷ (kcal per 100 g on the bag ÷ 100), rounded to the nearest gram.
