Dog Swimming Pools in Hong Kong: 25 Venues, District Map & Price Comparison (2026) — PetChill

Why are there no public dog pools in Hong Kong?

Many dog owners have asked: 'Why can't I take my dog to an LCSD pool?' The answer is simple—public swimming pools and beaches under the LCSD do not allow pets. A Legislative Council reply in April 2025 stated clearly that public beaches are mainly for swimming, sand play and sunbathing, and allowing pets would create difficult hygiene issues (such as pets defecating on the beach). Therefore, there are currently no plans to provide pet-friendly spaces at public beaches, water sports centres or holiday camps.

In other words, to take your dog swimming, private dog pools are the only choice. Fortunately, quite a few have opened in Hong Kong in recent years, from outdoor grass pools in Yuen Long Kam Tin to indoor heated pools in urban shopping malls, with the cheapest at $50 per session.

Quick guide: indoor heated pool vs outdoor grass pool—how to choose?

Type Main areas in Hong Kong Suitable for Pros Notes
Indoor heated pool Hong Kong Island: Causeway Bay, Wong Chuk Hang; Kowloon: Jordan, Kowloon Tong, Ho Man Tin, Sham Shui Po; New Territories: Tuen Mun, Tseung Kwan O First-time swimmers, senior dogs, dogs with joint issues needing hydrotherapy, heat-sensitive flat-faced breeds (pugs, French bulldogs) Stable water temperature (usually 26-28°C), most have coaches or staff supervision, works even on rainy days Smaller space; booking recommended at peak times, some venues require 1-2 weeks' notice
Outdoor grass pool Yuen Long Kam Tin, Pat Heung, Sai Kung, Fanling, Sheung Shui, Ma On Shan High-energy dogs needing to burn off energy, large dogs, dogs that can already swim Large space, mostly 'pool + big grass' combinations, can combine with running on grass and BBQ family days Summer sun and hot ground; some are summer-only or closed on specified days—confirm with the venue before departure

Indoor heated dog pool

Indoor heated pools are suitable for: first-time swimmers, senior dogs, dogs with joint issues needing hydrotherapy, heat-sensitive flat-faced breeds (pugs, French bulldogs), and rainy-day energy-burning. Water temperature is stable (usually 26-28°C), most have coaches or staff supervision, and the environment is controlled.

Outdoor grass pools are suitable for: high-energy dogs needing to burn off energy, large dogs, dogs that can swim, and family days combining running on grass and BBQ. Space is much larger, and many venues are 'pool + big grass' combinations, so dogs can swim and then run on the grass—double the energy-burning effect.

Practical rules for taking your dog swimming

Dog in life jacket swimming in outdoor pool

  1. Put on a life jacket: even if your dog can swim, an unfamiliar environment can cause stress or exhaustion. First-time swimmers, small dogs and flat-faced breeds (pugs, French bulldogs, corgis) especially need one—don't skip this step.
  2. Avoid the hottest hours: outdoor venues can have hot ground at midday in summer. Choose morning or evening slots and touch the ground before letting your dog walk on it. Watch for signs of heatstroke such as rapid panting or unsteady gait.
  3. Rinse and dry immediately after swimming: pool water may contain residual disinfectants or microorganisms. After swimming, rinse thoroughly with clean water and dog shampoo, especially the ears, paws and belly. Dry completely before going home—damp fur trapped against the skin can lead to skin problems.
  4. Clean the ears: after swimming, use a pet ear cleaner to clean the ear canal to prevent moisture retention and inflammation. Drop-eared dogs (golden retrievers, cocker spaniels) need extra attention.
  5. Check the rules in advance: each pool has different requirements for owners entering the water, footwear, life jacket rental, bathing times and bringing your own towels. Some venues (e.g. Homies) are by appointment only, and some require dog licence and vaccination card (e.g. Petfield). Ask before you go.
  6. Monitor for 24 hours after swimming: watch for shedding, skin rashes, itchy ears or lethargy. If anything seems wrong, take your dog to the veterinarian.
